Postgraduate Course Day
For the first time in the history of APIP, the meeting opens with a day given entirely to practical training — three parallel courses, each booked individually.

The Postgraduate Day is for colleagues who want to take their first steps, or further develop their practical skills, in pediatric bronchoscopy and interventional pediatric pulmonology.
All three courses have a strong hands-on character. Participants work in small groups on models and dedicated training equipment, which allows close interaction with experienced international faculty — the reason places are limited and the reason the day is worth travelling a day early for.
The courses are intended for fellows and trainees, but equally for colleagues who already have some experience and would like to gain more confidence and routine in these procedures.

Introductory
Flexible Bronchoscopy
First steps, and the confidence that comes from repetition.
Designed particularly for fellows and early-career colleagues taking their first steps in pediatric bronchoscopy, as well as for those who would like to refresh and consolidate their practical skills.
The course works through the flexible bronchoscope itself before the airway: how it handles, how it fails, and how to keep orientation in a small airway when the anatomy stops looking like the textbook.

Fellows and early-career colleagues, and anyone refreshing their practical skills

II
Introductory to intermediate
Rigid Bronchoscopy
The instrument that still decides the difficult pediatric airway.
A hands-on introduction to the principles, techniques and equipment of rigid pediatric bronchoscopy. This course is aimed at fellows and colleagues who want to develop or strengthen their skills in this essential interventional technique.
Rigid bronchoscopy is taught less and less, and practised by fewer people each year. It remains the technique that secures the airway when a flexible scope cannot, and this course exists to keep that skill in circulation.

Fellows and colleagues developing or strengthening rigid technique
Practical content
- Instrument set: telescopes, ventilating bronchoscopes, optical forceps
- Intubation technique and shared airway management with anaesthesia
- Foreign body retrieval on models
- Recognising and handling complications

III
Intermediate to advanced
Interventions of the Pediatric Pleura
Pleural disease in children, approached interventionally.
A more advanced course focusing on interventional approaches to pleural disease in children. It is intended for colleagues with an interest or some experience in pediatric interventional pulmonology, but also for fellows who would like to expand their knowledge and gain practical exposure to pleural procedures.
The pleura is where pediatric pulmonology, surgery and radiology meet, and where hesitation costs the most. The course covers the decisions as deliberately as the techniques.

Colleagues with an interest or experience in interventional pulmonology, and fellows expanding their scope

- Thoracic ultrasound for the pleural space
- Chest drain insertion and management in children
- Fibrinolysis and the management of complicated effusion and empyema
- Pleural biopsy and an introduction to pediatric thoracoscopy

How to book a postgraduate course
Each course is booked individually and separately from the main APIP programme. Group sizes are small by design, so the number of places per course is strictly limited.
You can attend a postgraduate course on its own, or combine it with the main course from 15 to 17 April — most participants do the latter.
